Three schools in Gwinnett County have been acknowledged for their outstanding commitment to sportsmanship in athletics. Central Gwinnett High School, Duluth High School, and Parkview High School received the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award. This accolade recognizes their dedication to values such as respect, fairness, honesty, and responsibility during competitive events.

The award is sponsored by Georgia’s Electric Membership Cooperatives (EMCs) and is given annually to one school in each region within every GHSA classification. There are 56 winners statewide across seven classifications and eight regions. This year, Central Gwinnett, Duluth, and Parkview High Schools are the only schools from Gwinnett County honored with this recognition.

“These schools have demonstrated that success in athletics is not only measured by wins and championships but also by the character and integrity shown in competition,” said Jason Holcomb, GCPS Director of Athletics. “This recognition is a testament to the leadership of our coaches, the dedication of our student-athletes, and the supportive communities that reinforce the values of good sportsmanship. We are incredibly proud of Central Gwinnett, Duluth, and Parkview for setting an example for all of Gwinnett County.”

Since its start in 2006, the GHSA along with Georgia’s EMCs have supported the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award to promote GHSA's philosophy: “Students, athletes, coaches, spectators, and all others associated with high school activities programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty, and responsibility.” The awarded schools demonstrate exemplary sportsmanship throughout the school year both on and off the field.
