Gwinnett County Public Schools' (GCPS) Music Technology programs were highlighted at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) Annual Conference. The event, which includes professional learning sessions and concerts, also honors music teachers and students for their achievements.
Amy Clement, Orchestra Director at North Gwinnett Middle School, received the District 13 Music Educator of the Year award. This recognition is given to educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching and are nominated by their peers.
The conference featured a Composition Competition Recital showcasing the top 15 student compositions in Georgia. Among those recognized were Benjamin Badinger and Analeigh St. Hilaire from Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology; Cody Phillips from Lanier High School; and Emerson Green from the School of the Arts at Central Gwinnett High School.
In addition to composition accolades, several GCPS students excelled in Music Technology competitions. Recognized students included Clayton Sales from Brookwood High School, William Sternal and Oluwabamibo "Bam" Macgregor from Lanier High School, Kamari Kelly from McConnell Middle School, Thomas Jenkins and Quinn Nelson from North Gwinnett High School, Grace Rivera from North Gwinnett Middle School, Aryan Damani from Parkview High School, as well as Kenard Elien, Milo Hadley, and Edwin Hernandez-Camarillo from the School of the Arts at Central Gwinnett High School.
The GMEA also promotes a High School Experience for juniors and seniors interested in pursuing music education careers. Selected students attend special sessions led by experienced educators during the conference. Participants included Raegan Dobey from Duluth High School; Alexander Sale from Meadowcreek High School; Bryson Avant, Kayla Cakranata, Aylin Lee, Jack Lees, Christopher Ngo, Joey Pak, Nikhil Patel, and David Williams all representing Peachtree Ridge High School.
Furthermore, musical ensembles submitted recordings to be featured at the conference. GCPS ensembles chosen include Bay Creek Middle's Treble Chorus; North Gwinnett Middle's Advanced Guitar Ensemble; Mill Creek High's Mastery Chorus; and North Gwinnett High's Big Band.
David DuBose, GCPS Director of Fine Arts stated: “All of these honors and recognitions are indicative of the continued world-class fine arts instruction that our students are provided. It shows that our students are excelling in highly competitive areas of the fine arts with a passion for success.” He attributed these achievements to community support for quality fine arts programs and dedicated school administrators ensuring access to opportunities for all students.
