Harris Elementary School, Couch Middle School, and the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology have been recognized as the 2024-25 Readers Rally Champions in their respective divisions: elementary, middle, and high school. The Division Championship marks the culmination of the Readers Rally competition.
Before reaching the championship stage, teams from each school level—elementary, middle, and high—compete in a quiz-bowl-style format. This format tests their knowledge of selected books. Winning teams advance to compete at the division level. For elementary and middle schools, books are chosen by a team of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) media specialists. High school participants read titles nominated for the Georgia Peach Award for Teen Readers.
"In 2025, reading is more than just an individual activity—it’s a social experience," stated GCPS Director of Library Media Services Julie Saunders. "Readers Rally brings participants together through their mutual passion for reading, making it both a social and rewarding event."
The initial competition drew over 1,500 guests and involved 87 schools vying to reach the Division Championship. Ten schools advanced to this final stage. "The Readers Rally competition is now in its 19th year and stands as the largest in-person reading bowl in the nation," Saunders added. "Our department is proud to foster a love of reading through this exciting and competitive event. The energy and enthusiasm surrounding books during the competition are truly remarkable."
