Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has announced the recipients of its 2024-2025 Bus Monitor and Managers of the Year awards. The honorees include Holly McDowell as Special Education Bus Manager of the Year, Richard Marriner as Regular Education Bus Manager of the Year, Dominique Bastian as Bus Monitor of the Year, and Adam Bennett as Fleet Technician of the Year. The awards were presented at GCPS's 27th annual Bus Manager and Monitor of the Year award banquet, recognizing a total of 49 transportation professionals for their dedication.

Transportation Support Manager Carla Hart praised the role of bus drivers in creating a positive environment for students. “Our bus drivers are more than just transportation providers; they are the first smiling faces our students see each morning and the last reassuring presence they encounter at the end of the school day,” she stated. “Their dedication and genuine care create a safe and supportive environment, extending the classroom beyond its walls.”

Nominees for these awards must demonstrate leadership, dedication, and excellence. After being nominated by colleagues, candidates undergo skills testing or demonstration before a committee reviews their qualifications to select winners.

Holly McDowell has been recognized for her nearly three-decade service in Brookwood and Grayson clusters. “I drive because I love the students, I love their stories and I love being a part of helping them become better people,” McDowell said.

Richard Marriner transitioned from two decades in New Jersey fire services to serving Mill Creek cluster as a bus driver for 12 years. He described his role as both adventurous and rewarding: “It's about providing a safe and reliable journey.”

Dominique Bastian found unexpected passion in supporting special needs students over seven years with Brookwood and Grayson clusters. She emphasized creating "a safe and nurturing environment" for students.

Adam Bennett was also honored with an award but details about his contributions were not included in this release.
