Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) has reported strong performance in the 2023-2024 Milestones Assessment, surpassing state and Metro Regional Education Services Area (RESA) averages in English Language Arts (ELA) and social studies. GCPS students outperformed state peers in 11 of 13 assessments and exceeded Metro RESA scores in nine.

Elementary students in GCPS showed a higher percentage of proficiency, while middle school results were similar except for eighth-grade science. Most GCPS eighth graders are enrolled in high school-level physical science courses, which affects their performance on standard assessments. Ninety-seven percent of these students take the high school Physical Science Assessment compared to only 40% statewide.

Superintendent Dr. Calvin J. Watts expressed satisfaction with the outcomes, stating, “I am proud that GCPS students continue to make progress on the 2023-2024 Georgia Milestones assessments.” He acknowledged the dedication of students, educators, and families.

The data reflects Gwinnett's standing among top metro districts, though Deputy Superintendent Dr. Nikki Mouton noted areas for improvement: “We recognize that while these results show progress, they also fall short of our ambitious goals.”

Results will be discussed at the Gwinnett County Board of Education meeting on August 15, 2024. Math assessment results are delayed due to new standards.
