Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS), Georgia's largest school district, is preparing for the new academic year in August with a series of renovations and improvements across its schools. These projects are funded by the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (E-SPLOST) and General Obligation bonds approved by voters, aiming to create learning environments tailored to modern educational needs.

The summer saw significant work completed at high schools, including a buildout at GIVE Center West and a cafeteria renovation at Parkview High School. Future projects set for completion in August 2025 include a fourth-floor expansion at Central Gwinnett High School and a three-story classroom addition at Archer High School.

STEM and Academy lab upgrades were also made over the summer. Seven schools received new facilities such as a Marketing Lab at Dacula High School, an Engineering Lab at Five Forks Middle School, Computer Science and Cybersecurity Labs within Grayson High School’s Technical Education Program, Healthcare Science Labs at Parkview High School and South Gwinnett High School, as well as Audio-Visual Technology and Film Labs at Lanier High School and Mountain View High School. Additionally, Trickum Middle School gained an Engineering Technology lab before the end of the last school year.

HVAC systems were replaced in several buildings including Brookwood HS, Dacula HS, Duluth HS, Harmony ES, Nesbit ES, Peachtree ES among others. Roofing replacements occurred across multiple schools such as Brookwood ES and Phoenix HS.

Interior classroom renovations took place over the summer in numerous elementary schools like Beaver Ridge ES and Centerville ES. These renovations included updates like ceiling grid replacement and interior painting.

Asphalt paving was refreshed in parking lots or driveways of seven schools throughout the county including Berkmar MS and Duluth HS.

In totality for 2024-25, GCPS will operate 142 educational institutions: 81 elementary schools (grades K-5), 29 middle schools (grades 6-8), 24 high schools (grades 9-12) including specialized campuses like Gwinnett School of Mathematics Science & Technology; Paul Duke STEM HS; McClure Health Science HS; Phoenix HS with its satellite campus Sugarloaf Mills; alongside various other educational facilities serving specific student needs such as alternative schooling or special education programs.
