All students in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) are set to commence the new academic year on Monday, August 5. Several schools within the district have organized back-to-school activities leading up to this date. Parents are advised to check their respective school websites for specific details about these events, which offer students opportunities to meet teachers, receive schedules and locker assignments, learn about bus routes, pay for lunches, and explore clubs and other opportunities. Additionally, parents can join the PTA and become more informed about their child's school.

For families with children registering at a Gwinnett County school for the first time, it is important to contact local schools for registration details. This includes information on testing for placement and procedures or ensuring an interpreter is available if language assistance is needed.

The registration process involves two main steps:

1. Starting the registration online where families can upload necessary documents. Accepted formats include PDF, JPG, DOC, PNG with a file size limit of 2 MB. For those without internet access, documents can be brought directly to the school on designated days.

2. Completing the process by visiting the child’s new school in person. It is recommended that parents call their local schools regarding additional registration dates and hours.

Parents unsure of which school their child will attend should use tools like "School Look-up" or "School Locator" to determine their zoned school.

Documents required for registration include proof of birth date through official documents such as a certified birth certificate or state-issued document showing date of birth; proof of residence in the attendance zone via utility bills paired with other legal documents; residency affidavits if living with another individual; proof of custody/guardianship if applicable; photo identification; Georgia certificate of immunization; evidence of recent health screenings; and optionally a student’s social security number.

More detailed information on registration requirements can be found at www.gcpsk12.org.
