The Gwinnett County Board of Education has appointed two new Executive Directors of Teaching and Learning during its meeting on March 21, 2024. The appointments are part of a reorganization within the Division of Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Jon M. Valentine has been named Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for Enrichment and Support Programs. Dr. Valentine is currently the Director of Foreign Language in the same division. His previous roles include Manager of World Languages and Global Initiatives at GaDOE from 2008 to 2013, and teacher in Fulton County Schools from 2002 to 2008. He also worked in financial planning with Wachovia Investments and Fidelity Investments in Atlanta, Georgia.
Dr. Anna Mary W. Smith will take on the role of Executive Director of Teaching and Learning for Core Programs. Dr. Smith has been serving as Director of Language Arts and Literacy since 2019. Her experience includes being Director of Staff Development from 2015 to 2019, Coordinator for Staff Development from 2014 to 2015, Instructional Coach from 2013 to 2014, and a teacher at Walnut Grove ES from 2007 to 2013.
Both executives have extensive educational backgrounds with Dr. Valentine holding degrees from Miami University, Georgia State University, and the University of Wyoming; while Dr. Smith's education includes degrees from Miami University, Columbia University, and the University of Georgia.
