Karen Mulzac Watkins Vice Chair, District I | Gwinnett County Public Schools
Parv Mahajan from the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science & Technology and Jillian Vacha of North Gwinnett High School have been named the 2024 STAR (Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition) Students for Gwinnett County. The award is given to seniors in the top 10 percent of their class who have achieved the highest SAT scores. Each student selects a teacher who has significantly influenced their academic journey; Parv chose Julia Rachkovskiy from Engineering, while Jillian selected Andrea Boyce from Science.
The recognition took place during a reception sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and Partnership Gwinnett. More than 75 recipients from 33 schools were honored, including students and teachers from Buford City Schools, Greater Atlanta Christian School, Hebron Christian Academy, Killian Hill Christian School, Notre Dame Academy, Providence Christian Academy, Sugar Hill Christian Academy, and Wesleyan School. Local sponsors included Partnership Gwinnett, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine-Georgia Campus, Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation, and Peach State Federal Credit Union.
The county winners will now compete for regional titles. Those who advance will vie for the state-level honor as Georgia's 2024 STAR Student and Teacher.
