Laura Sly, a library media specialist at McClure Health Science High School, has been recognized as the 2024 GCPS Library Media Specialist of the Year. This award acknowledges a K-12 library media specialist whose program excels in collaborative partnerships, research skill development, technology integration, and reading promotion.

Nicole Mosely, principal of McClure Health Science High School, highlighted Sly's dedication to her students and school. "Under Laura’s guidance, our library media center is a vital hub, celebrating our school’s culture and fostering a profound sense of belonging for students and staff," Mosely stated.

Sly has transformed the school's media center into an inviting space with areas for project collaboration and flexible seating among the books. Students engage in group projects within glass-enclosed study rooms or use stationary study bikes individually. She also promotes diversity and inclusion through various programs and by ensuring that the collection includes books reflecting multiple cultures, abilities, and perspectives.

Julie Saunders, GCPS director of Library Media Services, praised Sly's contributions. "Laura strives to expand access to information, cultivate a love of reading, and foster inclusivity for all students and staff at McClure," Saunders said. Sly will now compete for the Metro Area Library Media Specialist of the Year award sponsored by the Georgia Library Media Association.
