Two principals from Gwinnett County Public Schools have been named finalists for the 2024 Principal of the Year Award by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP). Dr. Brett Savage from Brookwood High School and Ryan Queen from Trickum Middle School are among six candidates vying for this recognition.

The selection process involved a detailed application review, assessing each principal's leadership skills, commitment to their school and community, and innovative educational methods. The finalists will now participate in interviews with a committee, with the winner to be announced during a surprise visit to their school in the coming months.

Dr. Savage expressed his gratitude for being recognized: “It is truly an honor to be recognized as a finalist,” he said. He emphasized that such achievements are collaborative efforts, attributing success to the staff at Brookwood High School and its supportive community. “I think this is a recognition of the great work done every day in the schools of the Brookwood cluster.”

Ryan Queen also shared his appreciation for being acknowledged as one of Georgia's top educators and leaders. He stated, “Being selected as a finalist for this recognition is quite humbling.” Queen highlighted the rewarding nature of his role as principal and noted that it often goes unrecognized. He added that being chosen among his peers to celebrate principals' work across Georgia is a significant honor.

The winner of the 2024 GASSP Principal of the Year Award will advance to compete in the 2025 National Association of Secondary School Principal of the Year Competition.
