Gwinnett County honors students at career education awards

Steven B. Knudsen Chair, District II | Gwinnett County Public Schools

Gwinnett County Public Schools recently recognized the achievements of 27 high school students in its 2024 Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education Student of the Year awards program. The event celebrated student accomplishments in relevant courses throughout their high school years.

The overall winner was Amy Fillippone from North Gwinnett High School, who received a $2,000 scholarship. William Susskind from Paul Duke STEM High School was named the second runner-up and awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Laura Call Gómez from Grayson Tech was the first runner-up and received a $1,500 scholarship. These scholarships were provided by the Jody Reeves Scholarship Fund.

The program highlighted top students across various schools, including Abby Taylor of Archer High School, Mykenea Belnavis of Berkmar High School, Isam Alam of Brookwood High School, and many others from different institutions.

Nominees for these awards submitted resumes, letters of recommendation from nominating teachers, information on participation in Career and Technical Student Organizations, community service records, and essays. Finalists were interviewed by a panel of judges composed of business and industry leaders.
