Students at Woodward Mill Elementary School are preparing for a unique educational opportunity. On Thursday, February 20, between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., they will communicate with astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS).

The school is among several chosen by the Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) to facilitate these contacts. Dr. Sonya Brown, Principal of Woodward Mill Elementary, expressed her enthusiasm about this interaction. “This is an amazing opportunity for our students,” she stated. “Thanks to the ARISS program, our students will have the unique chance to speak directly with astronauts currently aboard the International Space Station. This once-in-a-lifetime experience will allow our students to engage with real astronauts, ask questions about life in space, and deepen their understanding of STEM fields like astronomy, engineering, and communications.”

The ARISS program aims to involve young people in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) activities while increasing their awareness of space communication and exploration.
