The Gwinnett County Regional Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair is set to celebrate its 47th year on February 27, 2025. The event will be held at the Gas South District in Duluth and will feature over 800 projects from students across 115 schools. These projects highlight the talents of more than 1,600 K-12 students.
This year's fair includes participation from over 1,100 middle and high school students from various GCPS clusters, making it the largest Regeneron International Science & Engineering affiliated fair in the nation. Students will present projects in categories such as Biomedical Engineering and Robotics & Intelligent Machines. Judges, who are STEM professionals, will evaluate them based on scientific quality and impact.
Jessica Holden, GCPS Director of Middle and High School Science, noted the impressive nature of this year's submissions. "With project titles like 'Employing Polyphenols for Pancreatic Cancer Treatment'...students this year are demonstrating incredible scientific knowledge," she said.
Elementary school participants will also showcase their work aimed at solving local issues through Design Thinking. Kristin Luthi, GCPS Director of Science K-5, emphasized the importance of early STEM education: "Introducing students to STEM at an early age lays the foundation for future innovation."
Participants will have opportunities to engage with community partners through workshops that explore STEM careers and skills. Sponsors will distribute over $30,000 in scholarships and awards. Winners may advance to compete at the Georgia Science & Engineering Fair or even attend the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair in Ohio.
Awards will be announced on March 3, 2025.
